The evening's real trophy is the premiere of Matthew Harrison's well-framed feature, Spare Me, the twisted story of an outlaw bowler, Theo, suspended from the pro tour for assaulting a fellow competitor. Hoping to be reinstated, he tracks down his absentee dad, the legendary Buzz Fazeli, an orange-whip addict. Before he knows it, Theo's been sucked into a bowling scene lorded over by a corrupt alley-owner who's running illegal scams.
