The Spell

Lost in a forest of howling wolves on a cold and stormy night, a young couple, joined against their will in an arranged marriage, must seek shelter at a foreboding manor house owned by a sorrowing prince and run by his sinister and conniving servant. As the cruel night stretches toward day, the naive newlyweds...slowly uncover the unpleasant secrets locked within the castle walls. Dariush Farhang is a respected stage and cinema actor (featured with his actress wife Taslimi in Maybe Some Other Time, see December 2), as well as a theater director and screenwriter. Skillfully using the conventions of the old dark house tale, Farhang makes his story particularly relevant to male-female relationships in contemporary Iran, although he sets it during the decline of the Quajar dynasty.
