By the early 1970s Glauber Rocha, founder of Brazil's Cinema Nôvo movement, was one of cinema's most infamous figures. Films like Black God, White Devil and Antonio das Mortes were the cinematic equivalent of a bomb, shocking audiences worldwide with their mingling of Brazilian folk culture and revolutionary politics.
