STONES IN THE SKY
By the early 1970s Glauber Rocha, founder of Brazil's Cinema Nôvo movement, was one of cinema's most infamous figures. Films like Black God, White Devil and Antonio das Mortes were the cinematic equivalent of a bomb, shocking audiences worldwide with their mingling of Brazilian folk culture and revolutionary politics. With a visual aesthetic as aggressive as Rocha's own, this documentary by Rocha's son portrays an intense, seductive artist with a burning desire to end political injustice through cinema, and brings to life a period when such goals were not only discussed and cherished, but seemed almost possible.
