Stranger Inside
Cheryl Dunye (Watermelon Woman) reinvigorates the prison movie with Stranger Inside, excavating the rich terrain of the emotions and aspirations of incarcerated women. Treasure Lee has been in and out of jail for as long as she can remember. Separated from her mother at birth, all her young life she has been told that Margaret "Brownie" Lee is dead. But when one of her gang girlfriends rolls into State and tells her about a badass lifer named Brownie, Treasure is consumed with new hope for a reunion with her mom. Stranger Inside is filled with on-the-mark details of prison life, including therapy sessions with real inmates, and characters brought to life by a superb cast.
