Summer Showers is an up-beat comedy/drama that looks at old age in a sprightly, spicy fashion. On his retirement, old Alfonso envisions some years of kicking back and watching the world go by, forever in pajamas. However, his neighbors will have none of that and, beginning with a party in honor of his retirement, present him with a series of surprises that turn into full-fledged jolts through which Alfonso learns that he is in fact just beginning to live again. The cast of bizarre characters with whom Alfonso becomes enmeshed includes a domestic servant and her fugitive terrorist boyfriend; his son-in-law, in drag; and an elegant, aging spinster who violates Alfonso's celibacy and vice-versa. Alfonso is played by distinguished Brazilian actor Jofre Soares.
