Sunday Pranks

This is a macabre tale about kids playing in a bombed-out Warsaw courtyard on the day of Stalin's death, while their elders are off paying their respects to the fallen leader. If Our Gang had taken their sadism pills, the merriment couldn't have been stranger. As the senselessness of the adult world continues, the kids go on playing games like "Uprising" and "Shoot the Jews." Director Glinski obviously meant his not-so-innocent pranksters to be a microcosm of 50s Poland and he underscores the horror with stunning black and white images.
