Super Flip

A Pilipina maid cleans up her life in Super Flip, a short experimental narrative which explores the lives of young Pilipina and Pilipino Americans in San Francisco. The film parallels these low-wage workers with the manongs ("Older Brothers"), indentured migrant workers of the 1920s and 1930s. Super Flip also addresses the male-dominated, romantically mythic history of a unified Pilipino community, and imagines what a female version of this heritage would provide. Filmmaker Celine Parreñas got her B.A. in Ethnic Studies at UC Berkeley, and her MFA in Directing at UCLA.
