The Temptation of Power plus Controlling Interest: The World of The Multi-National Corporation

This film by two French journalists/filmmakers - Gordian Proeller and Marie Claude Dessarge - though completed two years ago, remains the best documentary analysis of the background to Iran's profound crisis and to the events of recent days. It is also the only film documentary available in this country which presents an intelligent and thorough critique of the Shah's Regime: it is a radical rejection of the Iran portrayed as “an island of stability in the third world of instability,” as a “guided and enlightened democracy” engineering an “economic miracle,” etc. The filmmakers succeeded in reaching remote regions of the country, giving us painful scenes with dispossessed peasants and unemployed workers. They ask informed, probing questions, drawing a grim picture of a society robbed of its integrity and human dignity in the name of “progress.”
