Tevye

Admission: $1.50

An adaptation of Sholem Aleikhem's familiar story in which one of Tevye's daughters, Khave, falls in love with the intellectual son of a local Russian peasant. Their courtship and marriage pit Tevye's affection for his daughter against his deep, and ultimately triumphant loyalty to tradition. The film is studded with memorable scenes: Khave showing her uncomprehending father the volume of Gorki which her suitor has given her; the colorful Ukrainian wedding and Tevye's mournful havdalah after it; Tevye gently teaching Psalms to his grandchildren.

Tevye is repeated on Sunday, July 1.
