"While all film and video viewing experiences entail an interaction between the maker, the film or video and the viewer, in pieces which use text these issues are often foregrounded. Questions such as who is speaking, and to whom, are explicit in all of tonight's works, sometimes asked directly by singularly cinematic methods, or suggested by the recontextualization of existing texts, or the constrast between different forms of address. These pieces create dialogues, not only between film or videomaker and viewer, but between past and present, personal and cultural representations, individual and group concerns. The act of reading is shown to be an individual experience and a social one, in works that re-use cultural texts or explore the gaps of translation and the spaces of interpretation." Kathy Geritz
