"Partially scripted by Dylan Thomas from a Charlotte Armstrong novel, this is a curious attempt to do an Old Dark House, complete with Welsh locale and interior sets that suggest a careful study of Whale's film. It's somewhat lacking in atmosphere, but it does have its odd surprises, and is a good enough story to warrant a more stylish remake." William K. Everson
