Thundering Hoofs

"Few of the Fred Thomson westerns of the twenties have survived; it is fortunate that this is one of them. Packed with action, yet also tongue-in-cheek, it helps explain why Thomson's popularity almost equaled Tom Mix's and why the FBO westerns (made under the studio leadership of Joseph Kennedy) had such a good reputation. Photography and production values are high, stunts are exciting, wonder-horse Silver King performs magnificently (even to, apparently, burying the hero's father in a neat grave!) and one of the most hissable of villains sends him into the bullring at the climax, hoping he'll be gored before a leaping, stunting Fred can race to the rescue. Grand action entertainment, and a fine original print." William K. Everson
