Totò, a down-at-the-heels former cabaret actor, keeps his daughter in an elite boarding school by executing little crimes with his friend and partner Felice (Nino Taranto). The chief of police, an old school friend, follows them closely. Totò the Con Man is famous for the scene in which an American tourist is swindled into buying the Trevi Fountain, but memorable also for Totò's innumerable disguises, including a woman trying to seduce his landlord, a Fidel Castro lookalike (a decade before Bananas), and an African ambassador.
