Tout Va Bien
Jean-Luc Godard and Jean-Pierre Gorin co-wrote and co-directed this 1972 feature which, unlike their previous films together (Pravda, Vladimir and Rosa), has two famous stars in the cast-Jane Fonda and Yves Montand, "stars" famous for their politics, if second to their films. They portray He and She: a film director who has turned to TV commercials, and an American radio correspondent in Paris. He and She become leaders of a labor uprising in a large factory in France. An excerpt from Godard and Gorin's notes on Tout Va Bien:
"In our opinion, it's a major film about love-Others might say that it's not a film about love, nonetheless it is-What it is, is to tell a story of love, today, in France.... It ain't easy; today, in France, nothing's easy.... You gotta think about what's happening in France, so's you can tell a story of love between two French people.... (I)mportant political events end up upsetting everything in everyday life-The moment comes when you can't do things the way you used to anymore-In the end, anger rises as fast as the prices-As we said, it's a film about love, and a realistic film about love, at that."
