A Tree Without Roots (Durvo bez koreni)

Gatyo is an aging peasant and former resistance fighter, a man of the land who is sophisticated enough to know that his way of life--its harmony and even its struggles--are very nearly a thing of the past. On the death of his wife, Gatyo moves to the city to live with his son. A Tree Without Roots is the drama of a man seeking to make contact in a foreign world within his own country. Hristo Hristov, who also directed Iconostasis (October 10) and Barrier (October 29), once again takes as his subject the complex dynamic that occurs when a strong individual collides with the overwhelming environment of progress and the emergence of a new system of values.
