THE TRILOGY II: AN AMAZING COUPLE

The second film in the trilogy is a Sturges-esque screwball comedy, in which wife Cécile and husband Alain suspect each other of infidelity due to a series of ridiculous misunderstandings, even leading Cecile to hire a detective. The basic situation (a couple, having everything to be happy for, slowly destroying their fine balance) could as well lend itself to a tragedy. By treating it humorously Belvaux illuminates the importance of style and point of view.

Part III is shown Sunday, April 20.
