The Two Towns of Jasper

The town of Jasper, Texas, shot to infamy on June 7, 1998, when it became the site of a modern-day lynching. James Byrd, Jr. was chained to a pickup truck and dragged to his death by three white men. As each man goes to trial, two film crews record the heightened tensions and debates of the town, but with a certain twist: one crew, all white, interviews only white residents, while another crew, all black, interviews the African Americans. Townspeople, believing they are "in good company," lower their guard to reveal their true feelings, for better or worse. Capturing views from all sides of the racial divide, The Two Towns of Jasper displays that race still matters in Jasper, and, by extension, in the United States.
