UPA Cartoon Festival
Recommended for age 5 and older. UPA (United Productions of America) was founded in the late forties by ex-Disney animators seeking room for personal expression. Their cartoons exhibit a variety of graphic styles and are noted for their sophisticated humor and skillful storytelling. Program includes: Gerald McBoing Boing, about the boy who could only talk in sound effects; Ragtime Bear, the first Mr. Magoo cartoon; Madeline, based on Ludwig Bemelman's story; The Emperor's New Clothes, Georgie and the Dragon and The Oompahs. (Prints from Kit Parker Films.) Preceded by Animation Pie, a short on children making animated films. (Print from Filmwright.)
