Videotapes from The San Francisco Art Institute
Recent works by performance and video artists at SFAI. Included will be Appease Piece, by Philip Lipman and Mary Glassanos, a work presented within insurmountable conditions of release, in which the hostage restructures his captivity. John Calvelli's Parlor Ode, a narrative about a suicide in an ice cream parlor, and Philosophy Lives On, in which a philosophical statement is injected into various situations, causing an apparent neutralization to occur. Steve Thurston's tape is Basically, I'd Rather Not Be Here, but “we are in the presence of neither a choice nor a conversion nor a desertion, but rather of a gradual assent.”--Roland Barthes. Other tapes will be seen, including works by Kathy Gronert and Magdalen Pierrakos.
