Violet Perfume: Nobody Hears You

Violet Perfume is one of Maryse Sistach's most provocative works. Set in a Mexico City of punk rock, pink hair-dye, and no-future youth, and based on a true incident, the film follows the unlikely friendship between two high school girls, and what happens after one is raped. New girl at school Yessica couldn't care less about following orders, but she does like smelling her classmate Miriam's long hair. As their friendship blossoms, Yessica's thuggish brother comes up with a deadly plan, one aided by his violent rapist friend and distressingly unheard by both parents and teachers. With “a young cast that's essential to the film's realism” (Variety), Violet Perfume is shot on the streets and in the cramped apartments of Mexico City, and glistens with the sweat of its environment.
