Visa U.S.A.

In this clever romantic comedy, the son of a small poultry farmer, with a great facility for broadcasting, dreams of going to the U.S. to become a show-business star. In his spare time, he gives English lessons and comes to know the schoolgirl daughter of a local bank manager. The course of their love, marked at every turn by obstacles placed by her parents who don't consider him good enough for their daughter, is further complicated by his efforts to obtain a visa that could change his fortune. But...the place of his dreams is closer than he imagines. Veteran filmmaker Lisandro Duque also directed Gabriel García Márquez's Miracle in Rome (see March 24). --Laurence Kardish
