The Walls Came Tumbling Down

“More mystery than traditional film noir, but an incredible rip-off of The Maltese Falcon--and fascinating.” (William K. Everson) When an aged priest is found hanged in his rectory, a newspaper columnist (Lee Bowman) turns private eye. He finds himself among a not-so-heavenly host of art dealers, socialites, lawyers and assorted infidels searching for two Bibles that hold the clue to a missing Da Vinci painting depicting the fall of Jericho. Fast-paced direction, and what the original Variety review calls “hep dialogue, with an occasional lapse into smart-chat” makes this entertaining film worth rediscovering.
