The Wandering Jew

"Though more pageant than spectacle, this version of the legend of a Jew forced to wander through the centuries seeking redemption (a legend that has its variations, all filmed, in various countries) is a credit to a small independent company (Julius Hagen Productions). Though like many long lost films it doesn't quite live up to expectations, it is so constructed that it grows stronger as it progresses, and the climactic sequence contains a powerful concentration of thespic talent, including a remarkable film debut by Peggy Ashcroft. Conrad Veidt's performance (in the same year that he made Jew Suss) is quite outstanding." -William K. Everson
