Wasn't That a Time Yum Yum Yum!
"The Weavers, the subjects of Jim Brown's affectionate and affecting documentary, were a New York-based folk-music quartet (Pete Seeger, Lee Hays, Fred Hellerman and Ronnie Gilbert) which enjoyed considerable popular success between 1949 and 1952...before they were blacklisted off radio, TV and the concert stage...Just the sight of their old record jackets carries me back to a childhood nexus of left-wing summer camps, SANE rallies, and households where 'socialism' wasn't a dirty word..." (J. Hoberman, Village Voice). Les Blank's films are always, but not only, for pleasure: they also reveal important aspects of daily existence, such as how people nourish themselves. Yum Yum Yum! explores the marriage of food and music that keeps the Cajun and Creole cultures of Southern Louisiana "cooking with gas." The focus is on musician, accordian builder and Cajun cook Marc Savoy, accompanied by Ann Savoy; with food and music by "Queen" Ida Guillory and others.
