What Did You Do in the War, Thanassis

Greek film is not all tragedy, and when they decide to make a comedy, they put their full effort into it. This light-hearted war-spoof, inspired by Blake Edwards and Richard Lester, follows the bumbling antics of the great Greek comic ctor, Thanassis Vengos, as he takes on World War II and the German occupation almost single-handedly. “The tremendous critical and commercial success of this satirical tragi-comedy has been the big surprise of the year... Vengos produces another beautifully-observed performance free of caricature at once wildly hilarious and very sad, of a little man unable to come to terms with life and its violence, but who survives with masterly resilience.”
