What's Love Got to Do with It?
Artists in Person
Each of the eight diverse pieces included in tonight's program broadly interprets and articulates what love is and how it may be cinematically depicted. The artists seek to understand love's myriad incarnations: for oneself, for material objects, or for one's family. The documentary Stuffed is a haunting, sensitive depiction of the human capacity to forge connections with material objects, urging us to consider the line that separates mere collecting from obsession. Powdered Sugar is a brief, vibrant piece that offers a unique interpretation of what it means to be “sweet.” Vanity is a revealing portrait of a man framed by his own narcissistic questions, which are answered by the people most important in his life. Talking to My Mom documents a woman's difficulty coping with her mother's death, and her subsequent foray into the American supernatural industry as a way to achieve emotional closure.
