The White Tiger

"Both at Universal and later at MGM, Tod Browning seemed to follow the same method of construction: start out with a bang, establish momentum quickly, relax towards the end, and let the audience anticipate a big climax--which never really arrives! If all of the silent Brownings are a little disappointing on that score, at least the ingenuity of plot and character in the earlier episodes keeps one intrigued, and he had a tendency to revive and repeat popular plot elements. Certainly some of The Unholy Three derives from this now extremely rare and quite outlandish early melodrama." William K. Everson
