White Trash (Kanakerbraut)

Admission: $1.00
Kanakerbraut is an unblinking, unredeemed portrait of the sordid. Paul is out of work, separated from his wife, living in a trashy hovel, drifting among beers, whores and stale hopes. Yet director Uwe Schrader makes his film as vibrant and as clear of self-pity as the stories of Charles Bukowski. Peter Franke as Paul looks like a de-romanticized Klaus Kinski, and the texture of the film is scabrous but fascinating, like a urinal wall in a flophouse.” David Thomson
