Wild Blue: Notes for Several Voices
Thierry Knauff collects film images all over the world?images of striking beauty?and combines them with testimonies of human cruelty, women's voices as they narrate the events and atrocities haunting their cultures and communities. (In one section, over the hypnotic image of the Master Drummers of Burundi, a woman calmly chats about body counts, bloody conflicts, and mass graves.) The resulting cinematic essay enraptures us with evocative fragments of a conflicted umanity, laying bare all its brutality and compassion. With short: Our Spirited Earth (Faith Hubley, U.S., 2000, 9 mins): An allegory of the world's past and future histories, in Hubley's unmistakable visual style and trademark humor.
