Words of My Perfect Teacher

Buddhist enlightenment is supposed to be attainable by all people, but to achieve it you need a teacher. As part of her pursuit of enlightenment, documentary filmmaker Lesley Ann Patten decides to turn her camera on her guru, Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche, a.k.a. Khyentse Norbu. One of the world's most admired Buddhist teachers, he is also an accomplished filmmaker who directed the acclaimed film The Cup. "Rinpoche" means "precious jewel," but as Patten follows him around the world, the subject of this insightful, always entertaining documentary proves to have more facets than even Patten expected. Along the way, Patten interviews such diverse subjects as film director Bernardo Bertolucci, action star Steven Seagal, and Gesar Mukpo, a reincarnated Buddhist guru who prefers basketball to meditation. More than just a profile of an intriguing cultural figure, Words of My Perfect Teacher is an honest, witty, autobiographical exploration of the human drive to be inspired.
