Yesterday's Dream (Rodrigo Ortuzar, Chile, 1989)

: Sueño de Ayer. Yesterday's Dream is perhaps more obliquely connected to contemporary events. A young woman appears in a large empty house in the countryside and is trying to recall her childhood. Her journey through the house and its surroundings grows increasingly unreal as she imagines herself witness to her conception, gestation and birth...At the same time, she is followed by an older man who films as an open act of voyeurism. Repeated references to a wound...would seem to suggest a larger frustrated desire to connect with the past and to understand trauma-or perhaps to abandon direct confrontation with a collective past, taking refuge in deeply personal memory.
