Your Sin/Sakube's Story

(Onagatsumi Sakube) (incomplete) Midori Sawato performs this rare silent shinpa style tragedy, presented without subtitles but with a written synopsis by Tadao Sato. The shinpa, or new theater tragedy was one of the most popular film genres of the 'teens and twenties, strongly influenced by contemporary theater and novels. Your Sin tells of a young girl, Tamaki, seduced, abandoned, and pregnant, who is saved from a suicide attempt by the fisherman Sakube. Sakube raises Tamaki's child as his own, while Tamaki in time marries and has a new family. Fate-or the fateful pull of blood ties-unites the two families, with tragic consequences.
