Zoo in Budapest
A free-spirited man (Gene Raymond) whohas spent his life tending a zoo falls in love with a runaway (Loretta Young)hiding in the zoo grounds. "Long considered lost, rediscovered sometwenty-five years ago, and shown surprisingly little since. A lovely, almostDisneyesque fairy-tale of love, orphans, and animals with the background of aBudapest zoo-already it sounds a little like Snow White, and indeed some imagesremind one of that later film. A mixture of Gothic romance and melodrama, itdoesn't really need its wild-animals-on-the-loose climax, but then Fox alwaysbelieved in a bang-up finish, no matter what the subject matter. Easily one ofRowland V. Lee's finest films, though a great deal of the credit must go to LeeGarmes for his superb camerawork, lyrical in the love scenes, exciting in theanimal footage."-William K.
