Polish director Andrzej Wajda's most recent film, Man of Iron, which won the Grand Prize at the 1981 Cannes Film Festival, is slated to highlight the 1981 San Francisco International Film Festival in October. (Man of Iron, set in Gdansk during last year's shipyard strike, was made as a sequel to Man of Marble.) As a prelude, we are presenting several films of this extraordinary director whose works provide a complex history of Poland from World War II to the present.
