September 6, 7, and 8PFA welcomes, for his first visit here, the English composer and pianist Neil Brand, considered one of the finest exponents of improvised silent film accompaniment in the world. Brand performs regularly at London's National Film Theatre and at film festivals throughout the world, most famously at the Pordenone Silent Film Festival. Among his many achievements, he has written scores for television dramas and documentaries, toured with a swing band for the BFI's video release of Hitchock's The Ring, and written award-winning musicals.Neil Brand will accompany films on the opening night of our Japanese film series, September 6; for the Silent Actresses tributes on September 7 and 8, and in an afternoon performance of Vertov's Kino-Eye on September 8.
