Our December 2003 Ozu series was enormously popular, but we suspect even the most ardent admirers of this Japanese master couldn't make it to all thirty-three films presented in a one-month period. Our “second chance” mini-series, leading up to Mother's Day, focuses on but a few of Ozu's films that deal with mothers-surrogate mothers, sacrificing widowed mothers, secret birth mothers-in the wild combination of techniques that characterized Ozu's early works and crystallized into his signature mature style.
