Night, a War; Indiscretions; & Farewell, Slow Voyages

A three-part film, made over a three-year period, and now generally going by the title of its last section - Adieu, Voyages Lents (Farewell, Slow Voyages) - this is a film which focuses on the feminine condition while narrating the story of a couple played by Jean-Francois Stevenin and Virginie Thevenet. The first major work of Marie Genevieve Ripeau, Farewell, Slow Voyages was presented in the Young French Cinema section of the Cannes Festival in 1978, and also at the 1978 San Sebastian Film Festival. Prior to this trilogy, Ripeau had made five shorts between 1969 and 1976; and had edited a number of features including Dominique Benecheti's Le Cousin Jules, Claude Faraldo's Bof, Pierre-William Glenn's Le Cheval De Fer, and Jean Chapot's Les Annees Lumiere. The first part, Night, A War, was made in 1976 and runs 14 minutes; the second part, Indiscretions, was made in 1977, and runs 18 minutes; the final section, Farewell, Slow Voyages, was made in 1978 and runs 60 minutes.
