Hatari
Perhaps no film by Howard Hawks has been more passionately loved by his admirers among filmmaker/critics in France (Rivette, Godard, etc.), critics in England and film buffs in America than Hatari. One Engish critic wrote: “Hatari provides a digest of ‘The Best of Howard Hawks.' It has the tame feline from Bringing Up Baby, the war-paint gag from Monkey Business, the target-practice game from Red River, and the song ‘Whiskey Leave Me Alone' from The Big Sky. Its characters, situations, and much of its dialogue come directly from Rio Bravo.” Largely improvised on location in East Africa, Hatari is a vastly entertaining mixture of action, comedy, and adventure among wild-animal hunters headed by John Wayne.
