Insurance investigator Jack Hawkins and arsonist Arlene Dahl are strange bedfellows in this sleeper that W.K. Everson calls "an excellent, virtually unknown Launder-Gilliat thriller. Not as much of a classic as their Green for Danger, it is a civilized, well-knit and beautifully acted film very much in that tradition... When and if it played over here, it was hardly ever reviewed. Like Green for Danger, it has some sudden chilling moments and a real surprise denouement."
