Roberts Mitchum and Ryan are featured in this adaptation of a sensational 1927 stage play - an exposé of big city racketeering. Producer Howard Hughes made a silent version of the film before his 1951 remake. Mitchum plays an honest cop who refuses to take bribes from the likes of Ryan. The film is centered around a nightclub where cops, crooks and curious journalists all take their drink.
