PFA is especially pleased and fortunate to present a team of experts from Industrial Light and Magic, Lucasfilm's state-of-the-art special effects company, who have taken time from a busy production schedule for Star Wars Part Three to share the intricacies of their art in a slide/film discussion.
Combining their expertise in computer technology, stop-motion animation, matte photography and model building, this team uses skill and creativity to make unprecedented fantastic effects come alive in such films as Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, Dragonslayer and Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Slides and clips will be presented by Richard Edlund, director of visual effects, Raiders of the Lost Ark; Dennis Muren, director of visual effects, Dragonslayer; Bruce Nicholson, supervisor of optical effects; Lorne Peterson, chief modelmaker; Sam Comstock, supervisor, animation department; Neil Krepala, matte photographer; and Michael Pengrazio, matte painter.
