This sensitively told story of a difficult love-hate relationship between a mother and daughter was noted by Gerald Pratley in "International Film Guide" as one of the most important Canadian films of its year. Actress Louise Marleau won the Best Actress award at the Montreal World Film Festival for her portrayal of the daughter, Celine, whose preoccupation with her feeling of having lost her mother's love invades her marriage and causes a crisis.
