A Night in Tunisia: Modern Jazz on Film

Jazz film archivist Mark Cantor returns to the Pacific Film Archive tonight and tomorrow with two fascinating evenings of rare jazz on film. Tonight's presentation, "A Night in Tunisia"--developed as a follow-up to last December's highly successful program, "Groovin' High"--will include filmed performances by some of the most important names in contemporary jazz. Although many of the names will be familiar to those who enjoyed the December program, most of the films themselves make their PFA debuts this evening. Included are filmed performances by such noted jazz artists as Dizzy Gillespie, Eric Dolphy, Thelonius Monk, Charlie Parker, Charles Mingus, Cannonball Adderley, Sonny Stitt, J.J. Johnson and many others!
