Fairy Tale Films
Recommended for age 5 and older. Classic fairytales lovingly or cleverly translated to film include: a zany cartoon of Jack and the Beanstalk (Ub Iwerks, 1933); The Emperor's New Clothes (Ted Parmelee, 1953); an elaborate puppet version of The Pied Piper of Hamlin (Mark Hall, 1983); the beautiful visuals of Legend of the Skylark; and from the recent PBS Grimm's fairy tale series, Bristlelip (Tom Davenport, 1983), a live-action film based on Grimm's King Thrushbeard, the story of a haughty young woman who learns how to treat others with kindness.
