Passion

“Passion is about two East European filmmakers making a film called Passion. Its story line is difficult to decipher because Godard has deliberately fragmented the narrative into a jigsaw puzzle: only by the end is one able to fit the pieces together.... Godard's conceit is that the film-within-a-film has no story because before you can film one, you have to live it. What we see are a series of tableaux vivants of famous paintings; what we hear are extracts from Mozart, Fauré and Ravel. Not an easy film, it has that visceral excitement that only Godard can give.” New York Film Festival '83
