Show People
In this delightful satire on Hollywood in the twenties, Marion Davies plays a star-struck country girl who arrives in Hollywood seeking the glamour of the bright lights, only to find herself the lesser half of a slapstick team. Davies proves herself to be a superb comedienne, whether as Peggy Pepper, baptized into showbusiness with seltzer sprayed from a siphon bottle, or Peggy Pepoire, motion picture star. Intended as a gentle satire on the career of Gloria Swanson, it pokes fun at other Hollywood luminaries along the way. A wealth of in-jokes and film history references--including some well known "show people" playing themselves, the behind-the-scenes glimpses of Hollywood are fascinating, proving once again, there's no business...like the Hollywood con game.
