Vittorio Gassman in a key role portrays a blind army captain, hiding his humiliation behind a shield of absurd authoritarianism and consumed with a neurotic obsession with women. With his Boy Friday (Alessandro Momo), he sets out across Italy, from Turin to Naples, to keep a date with a fellow disabled soldier who has agreed on a dual suicide pact. The trip provides veteran satirist Dino Risi with a wonderful foil--to explore tutti Italia through the eyes of a blind man.
