Bringing Up Baby
Featuring the song "I Can't Give You Anything But Love, Baby" as sung to a young leopard, Bringing Up Baby is probably the fastest paced of the thirties screwball comedies. Certainly it honors Cary Grant's verbal velocity more than any of them (and Hepburn, not to be outdone, makes it a neck-and-neck race). She plays an irresponsible heiress who manages to unearth the hitherto hidden funny bone in placid paleontologist Grant. Howard Hawks has characterized the film as one in which "there were no normal people. Everyone you met was a screwball..."
