Her Fragrant Emulsion (1987, 10 mins, Color, 16mm)
: "...an obsessional homage to '60s film actress Mimsy Farmer" (Lewis Klahr), constructed from cut-out strips of super-8 film collaged, rephotographed and blown up to 16mm. This process involves both an intimacy with and distance from the actual film material, a cycle which is also evoked by the mood of the film itself. The soundtrack, which both elucidates and obscures, combines with the visual track, an excess of color and movement, of exotic and ordinary, into a sensual mediation on the elusive, compelling qualities of the "fragrant emulsion"-of a forgotten actress, or a disappearing medium.
