Voskovec and Werich's second venture into feature filmmaking favors a greater cinematic and technical sophistication. The story concerns two boyhood friends-one a petty criminal, the other a suicidal pawn of his rich in-laws-who are accidentally reunited in pursuit of a stolen gem. Complicated by bungles and infidelity, the sport leads to its grand confrontation in a cluttered Central European museum (a crazy scene that anticipates the famous battle action in the Marx Brothers' Duck Soup).
